Aloha Paddling Community - My name is John Benson - most of you know me as "LJ" with Escort Boats Hawaii. I was asked by the Hawaii Ocean Safety Team (HOST) to Chair the Ocean Sporting Events Sub-Committee to gather All in the Paddling community to Share your Mana'o (Thoughts/knowledge) and put together some kind of a Standard Operating Procedure for our Ocean Sporting Events. This is an attempt by the US Coast Guard to allow us to Police ourselves on the Water without the Government making new Rules for us.
Please join us On the Island of Oahu on Thursday Jan.17,2013 - 6pm at the "Kaneohe District Park" off Kahekili Hwy. I will be conducting the 2nd meeting for this Sub Committee for Hawaii Ocean Safety Team. This meeting will Start the Brainstorming portion of our attempt to make our Oceans Safer for All during our Ocean Sporting Events. Hope to see you there. Thank you government for not intruding on every aspect of my life. Is there a wall or statue that I may kiss to show my appreciation.
Now on the other hand I really do thank Gardian Mariner for doing this .
It seems now with the technology out there that we can come up with a safe tracking system that can be used across all the race formats. If I can put a sticker on my key and have my smartphone fine it. I should def be able to find a paddler out in the ocean with some type of tracking device. I could see a company like Pacific Race Events including this service with their timing services.

@healthyearth, that would be awesome to bring that technology to the Race Course. Please join us at the meeting on Thur.1/17/2013 and bring this idea up, also findout what else people are saying/thinking. Mahalo for your input. GM
