History of Club Logos/Designs/Colors

I have always been intrigued and a little obsessed with the history behind how clubs originally selected their team colors and logos.

As time goes on, I think we should try to document this history.

If you know the story from your local club, please post here.

Was it as simple as the founder designing the shirts and picking the colors?
Were the colors picked because they didn;t want to be like ..... so went with ......
The founder/founders liked.....
Why the logo? What is the message behind the symbols that we might not know?
Was it done as a group or by one person?

Sometime this is on the websites, but not usually.

Mahalo.

I know the founding members of Kihei Canoe Club on Maui had ties to Waikiki Surf Club so Kihei chose to have the same colors, red and yellow.

good thread..

the founding members of Kits Surf & Canoe Club in Vancouver chose red and white ( national colours) and reworked the iconic DUKE surfboard shield as a nod to the range of water sports our members pursue ( OC-6, OC-1, Surfski, SUP)

From the Puna Canoe Club website:

"Puna adopted the colors of yellow and green, yellow representing the yellow to red fruit of the Hala tree and green representing the fragrant Maile vine, both widely found in the Puna area."
