Koa class in Napali challenge

Just wondering if people would be entering a koa class for Napali Challenge this year? Since most clubs will be shipping them for states, and that the amount of canoes available to borrow will be pretty slim.

Maybe you would get more than 2 entries which is what Molokai had. They should get rid of Koa for Molokai, as it is clear nobody wants to race Koa or risk their canoes. Guaranteed medals no mattere how far back you finish!

These canoes are living things that belong on the water. If it were you would you like taking a bunch of small kine swims in Ke'ehi Lagoon every Sunday for a couple of months, then getting put to bed 'til next year? Or get out on the open ocean to race and ride the bumps? More clubs should take the risk, then no more guaranteed medals... not sure if they will after what happened to Lanikai last year, but IMO the division should stay for those who want to chance um.

Young Brothers put a fork lift through Lanikai's koa last year while it was on the barge.

I also find it interesting that two club that are for the use of unlimited canoes (OCC and Lanikai) have been constant entrants in the Koa division for Na Wahine and the Hoe. And much respect to Hui Lanakila and Uncle Bobby for putting their Koas out there a lot as well.

A unique opportunity since there will be a lot of Koa canoes in Hanalei for the states. The Napali is not like a channel crossing and if there was a koa class for that race, this year...I think we would see more then just two entrants. Plus there maybe more participation in the challenge since most clubs will not be shipping their fiber glass canoes and sometimes hard to borrow one . Koa canoes racing against the Napali backdrop...that would be a beautiful sight....
