100 canoes $650 (only $450 if you didn't need towing) a team =$65,000

100 canoes $800 and escort = $80,000

$65,000 + $80,000 = $145,000 to Kauai for this race.

If we all pitch in enough for an extra $100 can you post the results somehow?

Has anyone found a results list yet? It would be nice to compare...

#11 Thu, 08/08/2013 - 9:53am

yeah those results are not even close. For open division Kailua Canoe Club came in 2nd, not kihei.

#12 Thu, 08/08/2013 - 9:57am

I hear Team Primo/ Waikiki Beach Boys (Ladies) in a Bradley came in about 8 minutes behind Namolokama Unlimited and 2nd overall. Also hear they paid late so unofficial. Impressive after partying til 4 am for many of them.

So, coming up on one week now - anyone know if we ever going see times for all the crews that raced?

#14 Thu, 08/08/2013 - 11:39pm

Paddlefast brings up something I'm been meaning to rant about for a while. There are a handful of paddlers (primarily top paddlers) out there that don't pay to do the race and there is a set that think that not finishing means they really didn't do the race and they don't have to pay. These small infractions are not going to ruin the sport but we keep on combining these different little infraction together, eventually it will take it's toll on the producers of these great events. These races are great events, they take a lot of work and cordination and the reward you get is seeing this sport excel. But if it get to where there is overwhelming cost out of pocket then some organizer might feel the effort wasn't worth it. So appreciate these organizer and do the right thing. IT IS WRONG TO NOT PAY NO MATTER HOW YOU JUSTIFY IT, NO MATTER WHAT TECHNICALITY YOU GAVE YOURSELF A MORAL PASS ON. You just sticking up the rear of these event organizers. You're just pissing in the face of the organizers and the other paddlers who are doing the right thing.

You want a litmus test on if I'm correct or not. 1. If all the people decide to "Pirate" I prefer "Steal" a race, would the race organizers still organize races. Probably not. 2. If everyone paid the race organizer that were part of the race, would the organizers still organize race? Probably so.

This has nothing to do with the Beachboys (ladies). I know a few in that crew and I know that a few of them would never intentially not pay even if they knew they would get away with it.

Pay your organizers, be friendly to them when it doesn't go as smooth as you like.... it's not an easy task.

So my Question is will they eventually be posting The Official Results somewhere @ ANY Time in the future oooor will they just give up on it?
I agree people SHOULD pay the proper entry fee to Race but on the other hand it would be nice to show a little Professionalism regarding posting the results... The Paddlers that did the race deserve it.

#20 Sat, 08/10/2013 - 7:31am

For the record, as I understand it the Primo/Beach Girl crew did pay their registration fee. It was accepted by the organizers and then they were only told that they were DQ'd for paying too late at the award ceremony.

#21 Mon, 08/12/2013 - 11:48am

@rachel that seems not cool. I mean im all against people renegading races but if you pay whether on time or late you should deserve a time and a medal, trophy, paddle etc if you placed in the deserving category. Maybe no shirt or lunch if you messed up the count but a race organizer should not take your money and then DQ you in my opinion. I love kauai and KWC is an awesome event and one of the best but state results and na pali results seem to take forever as if the race never happened. I know I would like to know how my crew placed amongst others.

#22 Mon, 08/12/2013 - 2:11pm

The Na Pali race is awesome. The organizers I feel lose sight of the purpose of the race and take their authority roles too seriously. Have the final results been posted anywhere? What is up GICRA? Reminds me of a great Steve Miller song.

What sort of scorekeeping/timing system did they use for this race?

They use the webscorer site and app on iPads up here in the PNW and have results usually the next day and it seems to usually be pretty accurate as well.

#31 Fri, 08/16/2013 - 8:02am

They were using a stick in the sand casting a shadow to keep time. They also had a couple tin cans and string to relay the penalties to the finish line. Word is they're waiting on their abacus to finish being carved so they can calculate the results.

I Love this Race!!!

Gene is awesome!!! Charlene is not!

Registration was difficult due to the Bad Link sent to the Outrigger List.
Tried to be good and send in race intent, but the link was bad. When I mentioned this to Charlene, she was not helpful at all. And I told her I was probably not the only one who used the faulty link....Beachboys maybe?

Don't Take someone;s money and then DQ them! Just don't accept the entry or their money if you want to be a jerk.

I think she's from New York, hence the lack of aloha.

Or maybe just faulty technology.

Ochra is all jacked up too, so maybe sh*t happens.
