New canoes transport

Have seen the Kapa'a getting transported on a truck's ladder racks. Awesome to do that. Was wondering...if with red flags and an escort vehicle...is this something the HPD would frown upon?. We carried some OC6's in Kauai on a van a few times and never had a problem. What makes these light weight canoes so useable is that they do do not need a trailer unelss there are rules about it. Anyone know...is it legal to put a 42 foot canoe on a truck rack as long as it is red flagged?
Guess I could look up laws somewhere but this forum often is a short cut for info. Mahalo.

According to this objects are only prohibited from projecting outside of the width of the vehicle. Nothing mentioned about forward or aft.
