Just took a brief phone call from Danny. At the wall(tip of Oahu) and he /Jimmy are going inside.

Kai and Pat are going outside still leading. Followed by Manny/Billy.

15 mile an hour headwind (Johnny said 20). Sounds like Jimmy's feeling better ...

#13 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 2:00pm

Anybody know who the bigisland team is?

#14 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 2:57pm

Early on Danny Ching said the Big Island team was Daniel and Kua.

#15 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 3:21pm

Pat 1st. Manny 2nd. Kua 3rd.

#16 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 3:45pm

Sorry gang.

No communication from Danny since his phone call 90 minutes ago. Either Danny & Jimmy pulled hero shifts and they're battling like a herd of turtles into a lame head wind.

Or they're out of it and Danny's not in a talkative mood.

Time will tell ...

#17 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 3:54pm

Sorry about the stale update. The leading crews have finished.

Signing out from the mainland ...

Must be something in that Big Island water. Three of top seven? Unreal.
The pictures of the race look more brutal than any channel I've ever seen. Looking forward to hearing the post race horror stories.

Unreal job to everyone who attempted it. I sat at home eating guacamole and refreshing OCP.

#21 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 6:40pm

Yes all mellow Johnny's paddlers. Definately next gen type sh&t. A whole different level in effect ok the BI.

#22 Sun, 05/05/2013 - 7:44pm

yep, mellow johnny paddlers (formerly team livestrong) Talking with some of the Livestrong guys prior to the race, Daniel's first at competitive OC1 racing, certainly putting on a show. The guys from Mellow Johnny are contenders for sure

#23 Mon, 05/06/2013 - 6:11am

just out of curiosity. who is mellow Johnny? And what happened to the Livestrong name?

Very cool that they're pushing the envelope over there.

#24 Mon, 05/06/2013 - 8:45am

Mellow Johnny is Lance Armstrong's bike shop. It a play on "maillot jaune", yellow jersey.

There's only one thing in the world that I don't like in the face..... and that is wind.

Hopefully the next party Manny throws will have wind hitting me from the back.........cause that's the only thing I like hitting me from da back side.

I love gett'n wind from the back more than I hate gett'n it in da face. So I'll continute to show up to the party hoping to get from behind instead of getting it in the face.

Great to see Pat back racing and at the top of the resutls. When he's at his best, he's on top.

Btw- excellent job to Manny and Billy.

What a race for the lead dogs! Big congrats to Kai and Pat - unbelieveable training. I watched Kai work all week some days like 10-12 hours, try to get in some training and then to power thru those shit conditions, unbelievable! Great teamwork, strategy during the race. Ask Pat how it was. Bumper cars at 2-3 hours with Jimmy Danny PAt and Kai drafting, overlapping- wow! Wish I had a video camera or something to film it. Danny and KAi side by side sharing strokes - they make it look so easy. Pat ended with the best part of the run- surfing into the Ala Wai. Everyone who did this race- congrats. Awesome.
