All of us at NYO were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Richard Holomalia. Holo had deep roots in the outrigger community and many of you know him from his years of escorting the Kaiwi channel races and his involvement with the ILH. I got to know Holo when he escorted our 2010 and ’12 teams for the Moloka’i Hoe. He was incredibly patient and generous with our group of enthusiastic and inexperienced paddlers. I was grateful for the wisdom he shared with us and very proud to call him my friend.
There will be a memorial service for Holo this Saturday at the Elks club from 5pm – 10pm (announcement attached).

wow man this is super sad. Holo escorted my crews for Moloka‘i Hoe races in the 90's and officiated ILH races when I was a paddler and later a coach. He was always very helpful and friendly to paddlers and coaches. My condolences to his family and friends. Sad, sad, day.
