Anyone know for sure if these new Viper Va'a paddles are legal for the HCRA State Championships. I don't see them on the conforming list. Don't want any DQ's this weekend over paddles. Mahalo.

I heard the viper paddles have a hollow carbon shaft with a wood veneer. I don't think this conforms to hcra rules

if a hollow shaft (har har) constitutes an illegal paddle I know there's at least one Hawaiian builder that would be making illegal paddles.
EDIT:
full paddle rules shown here. it says nothing of hollow shafts or bamboo. unsure if bamboo falls in the category of wood since it's a grass.

thank you for the confirmation. I was told by a paddle manufacturer of great acclaim that my viper..because it had a hollow bamboo shaft was totally illegal. I did not use it in any more races even though no one is really checking paddles. I told the guy some Tahitian crews were using it in the Molokai and had no problem. Glad I can use it distance because viper makes a great paddle..durable, light, balanced and easily purchased.
Not an advertisement...just a personal perspective.
