RATH 2014

Update for this year's race.

Due to our inability to find sponsorship for everyone's airfare we will not be giving away tickets to Te Aito. BUT, we did get part way to our goal so all the money we've raised thus far will be put into a super fun race, tons of prizes, AND for the first time we will offer cash prizes for the adult categories. Due to Hawai'i state amateur athletic rules we are not allowed to give away money to high schoolers as it could jeopardize your amateur athlete status. That said you'll still get lots of cool stuff if you're under 19 and you can still race for FREE!

Hope to see you all there. Come out to the land of plenty at Kualoa Beach Park where the prizes fall like rain. We'll be giving away everything but the kitchen sink…and if we had one we would!

As a reminder, race day is SUNDAY JULY 6th. This will give you a day off to recover from the rigors of the MacFarlane Regatta. We will have more details and registration up soon. Stay Tuned!

Aloha Gang-

Just to update since everyone is on here talking V1. Things for the RATH are coming together and registration will be online shortly. Prizes from our sponsors are coming in! We will be giving away at random two brand new paddles from the folks at Kialoa and one from Maui Kjeldsen of Kia Kaha. Also we'll have our normal massive pile of stuff: EVERYONE goes home with something.

Kamanu Composites, Hawaiian Paddle Sports, and Vim have all donated cash to the race so we will be giving away money to the top adult finishers this year. Last I checked the new Pure V1 will be available for people to race in as well!

See you there.

Bummers again gotta choose between conflicting events and this year it's between daughter's Hui Waa regatta and RATH. Missed the last 2 RATHs due to conflict of dates. I know someone else commented on this already on another site. Too bad wasn't on Saturday July 5th. Oh well. Choices, choices.

Nakana. This may help with the conflict.

Aloha Kingi, I'm not sure the race has ever been the same twice! We change the course every year depending on conditions and other variables. Generally there's a short 12-20 minute prologue in the morning followed by a 45+ minute afternoon race. Cumulative times are somewhere around an hour. Totally ballpark figures since everything changes year to year.

The constants: we will always race at Kualoa, everyone gets some kind of prize, and we will always Race Aound the Hat

Registration is now live. As always PLEASE register if you are attending. This way we'll have enought race shirts, food, and canoes for everyone. Having paddlers on our registration spread sheet ahead of time makes it infinitely easier to organize heats and loaning of canoes as well. See you all at Kualoa Beach Park!

Big thank you to everyone that has registered thus far! Keep em coming! Race jerseys will look pretty cool (designed by non other than Tim Awaya) and we will be giving away the paddles that KIALOA, PURE, and KIA KAHA have supplied. This is super exciting!! Also we will have some cash prizes on hand for the adults. Kids, we apologize, but state amateur athletic rules do not allow us to give you money. So instead you'll get paddles, gift cards, or some other pretty awesome prize pack thats worth at least as much as the adult prizes, probably worth way more…...
Mahalo to Odie for sending his new Pure V1 canoes to Oahu for everyone to use at the race. Island Paddler is helping out again. Big Mahalo to Kapuni Patcho to making the trophies that division winners will get to take home this year. As always Ocean Paddler will be on hand to document the action and will televise the race for us all. Check them out!
Also last but not least, thank you to Kamanu Composites for their undying support of all things paddling, especially the RATH

I also want to reiterate that entry for anyone under 18 is $5. So, if you're a youth, for $5 you get:
-use of a V-1 to race in
-lunch
-t-shirt
-the opportunity to win one of 5 paddles (Kialoa, Kia Kaha, Pure-- of which will be given away only to under 18s) through a free raffle
- tons of other prizes

So, if you're under 18 and you live on O'ahu, then come down to Kualoa Beach Park on Sunday for a fantastic event. No prior V-1 experience necessary.

And, if you're over 18, then you should still come down to a great event.
