KoaCanoe:

I saw this on a comment thread in the StarAdvertiser website. Don;t know if true-but gives you some info.

"Howzit. They couldn't paddle over even if they wanted to. The elite crews were gonna go ahead and paddle over but the US Coast Guard has the final say and were not letting any boats/canoes to leave. There were a few boats that left and were a couple hours into the trip when the USCG had them turn around. Waters were so treacherous that one person broke his leg on an escort boat while trying to make the trip back."

USCG shut down the Eono Hoe on day two one year. 2nd stage was postponed a day.

It wasn't eono. It was Olamau. First year. 3rd stage. Biggest channel I've ever seen. Hoping for those conditions again. Let's go.

That's the one. Thanks for the correction.

A pic I took from day three of the first Olamau in 2012 that Aukina mentioned.

Basically, I have no issues with the paddlers and their canoes in those wonderful conditions. Just the escort boats I'm concerned about, because if no more escort boats, then no more race. But for those that made it up, I was hoping that maybe a few canoes would of escorted them home?

@corynaka, that Kapa'a boat is pretty ok.
