Do women race?

Just wondering since every story that is written or most headlines for paddling is featuring the TOP men paddlers. I can see by the results that women are busting it just as hard. There not finishing last any more. All though the usual HIGHLIGHTED names aren't out there racing or ARE they but there being overlooked since: oh my god late breaking news Danny Ching beats JR! whats up?

Kauai featured Alana Goo. who's kicking it for Hawaii (you know Big Island)? what about Maui? Oahu?

hi cmk808, At first I read your post and was a little bit frustrated, cause I do consciously try to put women in the titles and give equal exposure to both sexes. But, then I realized you probably only want to see this website get better, so I'm glad to hear constructive criticism. But the reality is that I invest a lot of my time and money into this site just because I love paddling. It's by no means anything near a full time job (although I hope I make it look like one), so keeping track of all the races and names and everything going on in the paddling world isn't easy on top of the incredibly busy schedule I already have for school.

And when I choose the photos to go on the front page, I typically look for the best picture, though a top paddler is always good too. Also, just to be honest, people or names that I know probably tend to get slightly more use for obvious reasons. But if I see a name all the time, it's bound to end up in a title. And sometimes I don't even put names in titles, sometimes it's just too time consuming to have to look through all the results looking for names. So if you think up great titles, or just think someone really deserves to be in a title send me an email and chances are it would get posted.

Another thing that factors into the quality of representation that different places get is how the information is prepared and sent to me. The BigIsland for example, Jane Bockus and Marjie Santos, do a superb job in preparing results and photos that are almost always available hours after the race. Some places, I have more difficulty getting results or any news at all. So anyone that wants to see better reports about their races, get involved. Ask that results and such get sent to ocpaddler.com or make sure it gets done yourself. Most of the information on this site comes from those dedicated people that run the races. I just facilitate the whole process.

Another thing I want to mention, are the places that get news coverage. Lately, it's been all about Hawaii and California, but this website still is centered as a worldwide resource. So if there are races going on anywhere that are not on here, well, I would like to get them free exposure. My email is all over this website. :)

In the end, my goal is to make the best possible paddling website or resource out there and to get more people into paddling because it is, after all, the best sport ever.

oh, and since this is half way on topic, I would like to hear if anyone has more ideas, criticisms to make this place better.

okay, i just kind of babbled a lot, and still didn't answer your question. I know Lauren was still kicking aaa on Maui, Cherisse Kelii on the big island, and well, I should probably go do homework now rather than searching through results, but I'll be watching for other names that are maybe newer to the top 'crowd'.

I think this website is the BEST. The post was more of a EYE opener and a scratch on the head regarding the mere non mention of the top women paddlers. Not by you personally but by those that do a write up on an event. However you are very correct - you, as well as, every person that puts on a race, coordinate the paper work, start the race, record the finish of the race, cook, feed and hey find sponsors for good awards do not get paid to be out there. We should remember that when we are storming off at the mouth about false starts or lame excuses for not being on the line. We all have lives to live. No offense was intended to you personally Keizo. Just a thought to be thoughtful to all that read our daily bible.

Lauren is the best World Wide! She might just do it one day...top OVERALL! :D You can do it!
