securing waterpack??? help

how do people secure their waterpacks to their canoes? i cannot seem to figure it out, i must go through more waterpacks than anyone else..... letting it sit in your footwell is not a good idea. i lost two yesterday, i never hear of people even losing one--- so how do you guys do it???

luke, what i did on the pegasus was make 2 incisions at the back of the foam seat (far enough up to have enough meat to hold it), and then ran a nylon strap with a quick release buckle through each , and then ran the straps around a nylon mesh bag, where i put the water bag. the water tube now comes over the shoulder. you can cinch it down to keep it tight

if the mesh bag doesn't have anywhere to run the straps through you probably have to cut some well placed holes (then burn the cut edges with a lighter). i got the straps and the mesh bag at REI, for a few bucks each.

now you got a bag for your water, and some extra stuff, if you got. plus you have a handle for your seat when you break down your boat.

works for me.

Luke,

If you can stand having the extra weight, I use a Flashflo by camelback, it adds a little to your back, but your water tube is right there, plus you have some room for keys, hammer gel, or as I start to get used to a pelican with cell phone for emergency. I would not cut into my seat, but it works for dacho...

Why not put the waterpack around your waist? Can't fall off, easy access to the drinking tube and doesn't interfere with your stroke.
What we do here is make a loop out of an old wire coathanger, cover it with some plastic tubing and place around your neck. Tape the deinking tube to it and position the mouthpiece within easy reach of your mouth. Simple! :)

hey nalu, what's a flashflo? i try and stay away from having things on me cause they tend to rub--- but i really do have to figure something out, so maybe i should try that out. I'm too lazy too duct tape it every time--- i wish there was just something super easy and simple that i could do, like if canoe builders molded an easy place to put it. Does karel still have room for one under his canoes seats?

hey luke,
i have seen kai add a foam section to the front of his seats, kinda like how karel has it in the back but instead under the paddlers knees. this added section is basically a carved out bowl with stretch cord running across the top. you can add velcro to it and to your water containers to help hold it in place.
as for your waveblade i dont remember there beign any areas where you can add something like this and a waist pack (camelback flash flo) may be a better idea. if you run the pack looser rather than tighter it the strap tends to go around your shorts and not your waist which helps in chafing...

Luke,

Scooter has it correct, I keep my flashflo loose around my waist, not too loose, I have done a Hawaii Kai run with no chaffing. Beats messing up your seat. Then you have to get a hold of Howard N to fix it, go to www.camelback.com and you sould be able to look up flash flo..

Laters

That is a personal opnion, I'm not a camelback rep

luke, does your wave blade have space under your knees/in front of your seat like your pegasus did? either duct tape or buy some stick on bungee cord straps, and put the bladder here. it works great. always outta the way and east to access. if you don't know what i mean about the bungees, call me and i'll explain. zach

I try to drink somewhere between 120 and 150 oz. of water just before the race begins, and that usually tides me over 'til the end.
Nah, I actually use the Camelback Flashflo just like Nalu does. After about thirty seconds I don't even know it's there anymore - except when I need some water. Ahh, cool refreshing water...

If you don't mind wearing a rashguard you can make a pocket on the outside in the back. I made one out of mesh and put it on the back of an old rashguard for a test run. It worked great for paddleboarding, and never gets in the way. Took about 5 minutes on a sewing machine. Used it for all the solo races for a season with no problems.

Eh Luke, you're going to need a snorkel, duct tape, a shoe with red laces, a screwdriver, a cell phone with no antennae, surfboard resin, 2 red crayons, and a day old piece of pie. When you get all that, let me know and I'll show you how to use it to secure you waterpack. Happy hunting....
