Aloha fellow paddlers,
Congratulations to Chris Maynards Outrigger Australia open men # 1
crew for taking first place in the 7th annual 2003 Typhoon Gold
Coast Cup in a time of 2:59:34 the conditions were sensational with
a 15-20 knot southwesterly blowing, it was a tough paddle punching
into the first 8km leg of the race down to Cook Island, but after
rounding the first turning bouy at the island it was after burner
time. The brisk southerly and 2m swell made for a fast remaining 40km
down wind race. The feild spreading out quickly,Ikaika from Sydney
with Team NZ/Hawaii paddlers Rob Kaiwai and Bo Herbet paddling for
them, put the pressure on the Outrigger crew most of the race
finishing in a close 2nd with a time of 3:02:32, third place went to
Outrigger Australia #2 in a time of 3:07:47.
Lucky Hookano from Hawaii paddling in the Gold Coast Cup for the
first time steered the Northcliffe Snr Master Mens crew into 2nd
place for that division behind team Noosa in time of 3:30:34.In the
womens division Lisa Curry-Kenny's Mooloolaba crew hammered home in
a time of 3:33:12 followed by Outrigger Australia in a time of
3:50:32 and third place Cronulla with a time of 3:54:44.My
congratulations go to all 43 teams that took part in what is
becoming Australia's premier Outrigger Canoe Ultra-Marathon.This
race is very challenging with times ranging from the fastest of
2:59:34 to the slowest at 4:32:07.I am looking foreward to next
years race being bigger and better both on and off the water. Thanks
to the following sponsors,Typhoon Outrigger Products,Hammer
Gel,Camelbak,Breakwater Blades,Forcefield Makia,Seaworld Nara
Resort,Surfers Paradise Scaffolding,Riggers Australia and the many
helpers and rescue services that make this event happen.

Hello from Newport Beach California. My first outrigger coach was Lucky Hookano. Say hello to him for me. Also tell him if a kid, Eric Harris shows up on the beach, show him the Hawaiian hospitality that Lucky showed me. Eric is my son. He lives in Canada and is staying in Austrilia for a year.

Glad to see your team is having good results.
