I have a tutorial online for building foam amas. Perhaps that would be a good way to practice.

There is guy over http://www.swaylocks.com/ who was building A 6 man outrigger. I know he is building surfboards so the foam he will know about. His sign on name is aquafiend65. and his email address can be fond there.
