Paddle around Australia

There was a intresting doco recently about 4 people who rode around Aust on Jetskis which made me think wether a similar feat could be done on an outrigger. It would be the biggest, longest, hardest relay paddle EVER( in modern time that is) Teams from each state will be responsible for their strech of coastline, organising crews, support, media etc. Its not a race but a challenge that will go down in the record books. GPS can be used to plot start/stop point along the way co it will take a few MONTHS to do. Can be done for charity.Should get into the World Book of Records. Once in a lifetime challenge. As many people can participate. Good exposure for the sport. Let me know youre ideas, reservations, coments etc. Is it possible or just crazy??

As far as I can ascertain, the Australian mainland coastline is approx. 33,535 km (or 20,959 miles) in length. it would be one hell of a challenge!

It would take between 6 and twelve months to do. It would take alot of planning such as support boats, doctors, dietitions, heart rate monitors, places to stop incase of an emergencey. There are on certain places that a support boat can go to as well. Because only certain boats can go over the GReat Barrier Reef. It would be a difficult thing to do and plan, but it is a once in a life time thing and it would give very good exposure to the sport in Australia and it would go down in the record books. :D

Thats really far
I know it took Team hawaii 7 and a half hours to do 60 miles in that race this past weekend. the conditions were flat. So if you think about it average 60 miles a day. You are in for a long time.

wow that would be pretty long even with a sailing canoe... i saw this article about a guy that paddled a kayak with a kite sail from Monterey, CA to Maui (2200 miles). It took the guy about 64 days. http://www.oceanplanet.com.au/gilletarticle.htm
