How do you rig your Hurricane?

Aloha all,

Just got my Hurricane and wondered how others are rigging them.
I put the front iako all the way into the ama and the back iako almost all the way out of the iako. Into the hull, I put it as close as I can go. It seems to be still very stable (much more so than my old Stingray).

So how are others doing it?

Thanks,

I have found that too much discrepancy between the front and rear iakus pushes the back end too far down into the water and creates drag. I like the rear tip of my iaku to come slightly out of the water when sitting level. I try not to set my Hurricane iakus more than two numbers apart (3 in front, 1 in back, etc.) That's just my feel, though.

i agree with sdc2447 about not rigging with the iakos set too far apart. i've found for me [168lbs] that i am most comfortable with 2 in the rear and 3 in the front. that, for me, allowed for the most comfort when flying the ama, and in everything from glass to surf.

I have the older hurricane with the buttons, I was told to have it highest in the front and lowest in the back so that the least amount of ama was touching the water. Older model only has three choices for ama height. I set it up heighest in front and middle in the back.

Can't say much about which side should be higher. Whatever combo u use, just make sure the canoe is level while seated. Friends of mine place a level across the width of the canoe to detemine whether the canoe is uh.....er.....level.
