Regional races SD, Orange County, LA, SB, NOR CAL Etc...

I am posting a new topic taken from the "san diego padddles" thread. I think weekly races on a set course is a great idea. The Southern California racing series for many is not realistic to race. There are several factors to this one is driving distance between races. I would like to see more regional races, with greater numbers of paddlers racing in there home town. Then Having a few all region races. There are a lot of paddlers out there that you never see at the races. Why?
We would all like to be a Danny, jr, kai, patrick or any of the other top paddlers in the sport. The reality is this is not going to happen for many of us. Having regional races would allow more paddlers to be in the top of their area, (I am glad I am not in the LA and Orange county area) And race more frequantly. Over the years I have raced in the short course many times. I take the heat and heckling but in the end I have the opprtunity to win the race, There is no better feeling than leading a race. This is what regional races would do for many paddlers. Then use big races to see where you stack up againt the rest of the state.

Would be cool to have a local series run from Oceanside to S.D. as the 'southern division' then a central etc ....

Would a points system work? Maybe double points for division championships ? Or bonus points if racing in another division on a non-local division race day ? Over complicated ? Just thinking out loud.

Q: Do you think races are run sooooo early because ?

A. This is the only time they can get a permit for / Lifeguards will allow ?
B. Trying to make it easier for folks travelling from far to get home early ?
C. Do not have to deal with wind / rougher conditions ?

Would be nice to not have to climb out of bed so early, shovel breakfast, do business in a slimy restroom, race up to course only to paddle along shore in glassy conditions.
