Aussie paddler needs info from locals on Maui

Hi to all you local Maui paddlers, two of us Aussies (Rambo and Thor) are Maui bound in April intending to race in the Maliko run on the 22rd and the Maui to Molakai run on the 29th. We are both experienced OC1 paddlers and would love to hear from all who has done either of these races.
Come on Guys , talk it up and get us excited about our trip to your neck of the woods. Tell us how good it is.

Will also be on Oahu between the races checking out the scene.
See you in April .... Rambo and Thor

Aloha Rambo & Thor:

You couldn't pick a better pair of races to check out the Maui scene. April 22nd is going to be a great race as MCKC has extended the long course all the way to Keanae for the first time ever. You get not only the full Maliko course, but an extended vista of parts of Maui few paddlers get to see. It's challenging, it's exciting, it's a long paddle. You'll certainly get your money's worth on that one!

The next week is the Starbuck's Maui-Moloka'i challenge. 26 miles of open ocean paddling, across the spectacular Pailolo Channel. It can be brutally hot and flat, or it can be absolutely HUGE. Last year was over 3 hours of Hawaiian roller-coaster fun from the second you left Flemming's Beach until you crossed the finish at Kaunakakai Pier.

You want to know what paddling on Maui is all about? You want excitement? You want to race with some of the best paddlers in the world? These are the races to do it. Get pumped up, get ready, and get over here. The fun awaits you, Maui style.

Hi Don, Thanks for your reply, now i know for sure we made the right choice to paddle Maui and experience all she has to offer. We were criticized by our club mates for not choosing to do a more "traditional" race such as the Molakai to Oahu or other more publicised races. But we were looking for "culture " and the opportunity to live the lifestyle of a typical Maui paddler for a few weeks and gain a greater understanding of the origins of the lifestyle we have adopted. Not just fly in fly out and treat it as a sporting competition. We both love the ocean and the connection we have with it thru paddling. See you there. Oh and don't forget your "slipparhs"

Cheers Rambo and Thor
