I know everybody is different when it comes to eating and drinking (getting the fuel) before a race! So just want to know what you do you eat and drink before a race ( time before and amount) ? Also what do you hydrate with during the race?

try to drink one liter half an hour before you race, also Bananas, Noodles or complex Carbohydrates will work. Drink mineral waters or mix apple juice with mineral water so you have the minerals with some carbs. And try to drink every 15min during the race. When you get thirsty than its too late.

Eating before a race doesn't just start the day of. Depending on how hard and frequent you train, you may have to start eating for the race a couple days before hand. If you have been paddling hard all week to get ready for the race, chances are that your glycogen stores are low. Glycogen is basically your muscles' energy. You have to carb load. Eat a lot of complex carbohydrates and even some simple carbohydrates like fruit as long as you have enough fiber with the meal to keep the insulin spike to a minimum. Sorry, for you white rice lovers, it is not very good for carb loading because the insulin spike you get from it drives a lot of the energy into your fat cells. Pasta and whole grains are best. also, start hydrating the day before. Carry the water jug with you where you go. The morning of the race eat at least 40g of complex carbs around 2hours or so before race time. No coffee in the morning, the caffeine drys you out. Keep drinking water and get your minerals in so you don't start cramping.

i usually start hydrating about 2 to 3 days before a race . on the day of the race i usually drink a litre of water and a gatorade. food wise i usually try to eat a big meal the night before the race consisting usually of a big steak veges and some carbs. in the morning i usually eat a big fat chocolate muffin about 2 hours before i race and after the race at least 2 gatorades !

I eat like 6 to 8 egg whites. Research is showing protein along with carbos fuels the body much better than the previously thought carbos only. Then water, sports drink, then powergel.
Bananas are always a good idea.
