Event Description:

The 8th Annual ‘Howe Sound Outrigger Race’ will be held in Gibsons BC on the
weekend of July 8th and 9th , 2006. This major event has become the largest
paddling event of it’s kind in Canada and has gained international
recognition as one of the top ten races of its kind in the world. The event
includes sprint races for paddlers new to sport and a 15km and 30 km course
for the hard-core paddlers.

This year more than 35 of the awesome 45-foot ‘long boats’ (OC-6) and about
60 solo and tandem outriggers (OC-1/OC-2) are expected to grace Gibsons
Harbour and the waters of Howe Sound for ‘big-water’ racing.

The HSOR attracts paddlers from Hawaii, western mainland United States, Hong
Kong, Australia and Canada. This year some of the world’s top paddlers and
builders of outrigger canoes are expected to attend again from Hawaii. They
will be racing, leading coaching clinics and development forums and
networking to attract and inspire young paddlers.

The Town of Gibsons becomes the heartbeat of the outrigger world for the
weekend. For more information please go to www.clippercanoes.com
