Stolen Canoe

Aloha kakou
Since the City and County of Honolulu decided to dump sewage into the Ala Wai canal things have been anything but normal for people who frequent that urban waterway. The waters continue to hold life threatening bacteria so the canoe clubs that call the Ala Wai home are forced to paddle at different sites around the island. My canoe club, Hui Lanakila, moved our boats to the top of Maunalua Bay near Hui Nalu's canoe site. It seems one of our racing canoes, named Kaholoawiwi, has been stolen. I would like to ask that the paddling community of O'ahu help to locate our missing sister and have her returned to us. This is unexceptable.

Mikala,

I just found out yesterday that you had your Kaholoawiwi stolen from the vicinity of our paddling site. You have my utmost cooperation in helping you recover her. Just so you know we have had a rash of thefts at the club site. A stereo and purse was taken from one of our Novice A women's car. We also had some graffiti on canoes, which goes against the mana of these beautiful canoes. We are also have had canoes pushed into the water, and we discover them down the shoreline. Our head coach has advised the police of the problem, but until we actually get an eyewitness that is not afraid to come forward, these problems are going to continue. Who ever did this does not know the meaning of ALOHA for the Wa`a. We give you all our ALOHA and hope you still will paddle in the area.

I would search the shoreline near the practice site. It is quite difficult to steal a canoe. I think a rational guess is someone pushed it in and it drifted off or they paddled it somewhere nearby. The area has many nooks and crannys along the shoreline. Worth a look if you haven't already.

Great!!! I know that you and your members are happy that your beloved canoe has been found safe. It still sucks that we have A*# holes who think it is cool to push canoes in the water. Hui Nalu has this happen often, but I have noticed that you have your canoes locked up. We tend not to have them locked.
