New Members

Aloha,

We have a club here in Dallas that is just 3 years old and we are on a quest to get new members. What avenue works best for getting new members or even getting people to come out and participate. We know that once people get in the canoe and paddle they are hooked.

Great to hear paddling has reached the Lone Star state. I would try to put flyers up at the local gyms and also put ads in the college newspaper. Another options would be to go with flyers to local sporting events such as triathalons, road bike races, running races. These are great people to introduce to the great life of canoe paddling. You could also try to talk to someone at your local college or high school's athletic department to see if you could pitch canoe paddling to there athletes in hopes of getting some interest. And finally, a simple informational sign near a busy road leading to your site or in the neighborhood around your site with one of your friendly member's phone number or email address so that anyone could call to find out more.
Good luck!
Mikala

Another thing you may be able to do:

If where you paddle has some sort of "open to the public" event, schedule your team for a paddle so that more folks see you at it.

MDROCC participates in "Marina Days" each year, offering canoe rides for a small fee - couple of bucks, something like that. Probably some liability issues to concern yourself with, but worth exploring.
