Where's the ALOHA

Aloha Paddling world! I just received information from a friend on mine of some disturbing events that took place on the Big Island, one man racks at Honokohau Harbor, involving several one man and two man canoes ( 4 of them ) cables being cut by someone or some people. The sad thing of this is it was done particulary to the onwer of these canoes. It wasn't a random thing. It was delibertly done!! The onwer of these canoes is Ian Foo and his wife Lauren Foo. For what reason..I don't really know, but I do know that this type of acts should not be tolerated in this sport. Why go endanger someones life??

From what I got, Ian and Lauren has been VERY generous in allowing people to use these canoes, at any time of the day, when either their canoes are being fixed, sent to other Islands for racing, or waiting for their new canoe to come in with no strings attach!! They have also allowed people to demo these boats if they were thinking about buying one. Where else in Hawai'i will you have someone like this who would do this?? Not much.

I do know that Ian Foo has made a NAME for himself in this paddling world (wether it's good or bad) but I do know that his contibution has been a plus one way or another for everyone here in the paddling community near or far.

It's very unforunate that there are people in this paddling world who would do such a thing like that. I know that there are bad blood between padddlers and clubs, but to go cut someones cables is a pure act of chicken $@&*. If you have a problem with someone.... tell it to their face. Don't go destroying peoples property. If not, seek help and keep your unwanted energy away from our paddling world. Hopefully Randy Boti and his people can help keep the paddling shed a save place for all canoes there.

One of the saddest things I've ever heard. Not to mention dangerous. I don't care how much you hate someone, that's something you just don't do.
Anyone else believe in carma?

Just wish sometimes these person(s) could be caught red handed. To do something as low as cutting canoe cables is, or has been, one of the most sorry thing I have ever heard of in my thirty years of paddling.

Hope Ian and Lauren the best.

I agree, this act was done by someone that has absolutely no idea of what it means to have the Aloha Spirit and that outrigger racing is just not about beating the next guy(or gal), but about enjoying each others company and helping the sport grow as a whole. If the community doesn't help itself, no one else will and acts like this will turn away potential paddlers. It will make those who share their knowledge, canoes and good vibes reconsider helping others who might harm them.

Mahalo,

Really, come on I know that if it was a paddler then as some one once said what goes around comes around. I hope somebody comes forward to give these person or persons up. We help each other regardless if we don't get along that is what I love about this sport. There is so much ALOHA. And if someone did this because they were bored, that is the biggest slap in the face. Ian and Lauren from Oahu you have my support.

Aloha

Mr Foo has not endeared himself to the hand of the sport that feeds him. ... Though the incident was wrong, Ian needs to learn that the sport is bigger than any individual.
