Hawai'i paddlers compete for chance at K1 World Championships

Josh Crayton sent in some articles and results of the USACK Team Trials in San Diego this past weekend. The races featured many names familar to the outriger community racing Olympic regulation sprint canoes and kayaks in 500m and 1000m races.

Competitors from HI included Lauren Bartlett, Patrick Dolan, Andy Busse, Brandon Woods, Eric Abbott and Kai Chong. Chris Ball and Jim Farnum coached a strong contingent of seniors and juniors from the island state. Rami Zur (a frequent surfski competitor stateside and in HI) and Danny Ching represented So CA. All competed in a K1 (singles), K2 (doubles) and K4 (four-man) events.

Those who distinguish themselves earned the privledge to represent the USA in Europe this summer at World Cup races, culminating in the World Championships. Participation in an important step toward ultimately earning a spot on the 2008 Olympic team!
