Hilo Hawai'i (June 10, 2003)

The organizing committee of the 2004 Hilo World Sprints Championship has selected the logo design submission from the Creative Arts design team as the official logo for the event. The logo design, depicting a petroglyph canoe paddler, will be used in all 2004 Hilo World sprints correspondence as well as merchandise for the event. The Creative Arts design was one of 22 submissions in the competition.

The organizing Committee has also selected the canoe designs as well as the canoe manufacturers that will build the canoes for the event. There will 20 each of the V-6 six person canoes and the V-1 solo rudderless canoes.

The V-6 canoes are being built by Outrigger Connection in Honolulu and the Mirage is the canoe chosen. www.outriggerconnection.com

The V-1 (solo rudderless) canoes for the event are being built by Tiger Canoes on Kona Hawai`i. Tiger Canoes has designed a new rudderless canoe for the event. http://www.tigercanoe.com/

The 2004 Hilo World Sprints Championship will be held in Hilo Bay in August 2004 and are being hosted by the Kekua Foundation and the Hawaii Canoe Racing Association. John Kekua is the Chairman of the 2004 Hilo World Sprints Organizing Committee.
