N. Cal Organizations

Hello,
I just moved to Foster City and was wondering if anyone knows of any OC organizations in the area. I am interested in learning the sport and meeting some cool people.
Thanks,
MM

There is a canoe club right there in Foster City. Ho'okahi Pu'uwai. I believe they practice in the Foster city lagoons and at Coyote Point Yacht Harbor on the weekends. Coaches name is Danny. Check out their website. You can find other canoe clubs in the area on the NCOCA website. Kilohana in Redwood city, SFOCC in San Francisco or Kaimanu right across the bay in San Leandro.

Welcome to the foggy north!

Here's a link to the Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association (NCOCA):
http://www.ncoca.com/

You'll find links to most of the clubs in the area. Ho'okahi Pu'uwai is very close:

And Kilohana OCC practices just a few minutes from you:

With the season in full swing, you might find it too late to get started this year. While clubs like to welcome new members whenever they can get 'em, by July, crews are largely set and it can sometimes be a challenge to fit you in.

Thanks for the info. Right now I am just looking to learn all I can so not fitting into this season is fine.
Thanks again,
MM

It's getting colder here in NorCal, but we're still paddling. Hui Wa'a / Canoe and Kayak located in Redwood City, CA is accepting all comers to check out our halau and see what we have to offer. Although this time of the year most clubs shut down on structured practices we're still paddling thru the winter. You'll need to layer your workout clothes alot more than norm, but it's all good.

Check out www.kanuclub.org for more info.

I live on the water, on one of the houseboats across from the club. What time do you meet and go?

Very cool that you're so close!! We're practicing this Saturday, December 2nd at 9A to 10:30A. There's a short work-day scheduled thereafter to work on some of the OC6's. Dress accordingly for cold weather and bring water/energy drink for the practice. Look me up when you get there or just introduce yourself to the group.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Mstrpaddler, this is just a shot in the dark, but do you know a guy named Josh Luria fom Marin canoe club? If so tell him his old friend James Clapp misses him(425) 770-4312. I tried other means of locating him but came up with nada. I think the club is He'e Nalu o Marin or something like that.

Vince,

I was mistaken about practice this weekend. It's actually a end-of-the-season work party to provide some TLC to our OC6's and the rest of our gear. There will be some light paddling on Sunday, but here's the actual email from Mike Martinez announcing this event.

BTW - if you want to be informed of upcoming practices, please go to Yahoo Groups..search for Hui Wa'a Outrigger. Request to be added to the group and I'll approve your request.

This weekend, I plan on working on the canoes. We are going to have at least two weekends this month working on canoes. First session will be Saturday @ 11:00am at BIAC. Will get a plan going and perhaps get in some grinding....where the appropriate clothing.
Sunday, we can have a combo work day. Bring your OC1's, etc, or if there is enough people, and will do some off season video taping before the work party. Start at 9:00am, paddle until about 10:30am, then work on canoes for 2 hrs. If we work on canoes a little at a time for the next few months, we'll be ready for the spring.
Please email me if you can be there.
Thanks,
Mike
