2008 World OC1

Hi - just wondering if anyone knew what the word is on canoe manufactorers for the 2008 Worlds?
i'm looking at buying an OC1, and figure i might as well get what people will be using in 2008 (am hoping to compete, and want to avoid any surprises in the canoe handling department).
Anyone heard anything?

Cheers

I think we talked about this before... Anyways, here it is:

http://www.riotkayaks.com/v3/fw_nalu.asp

It's blazing fast in the flats, and stable in the surf - and you can use it "...with a paddle or an oar." I'm pretty sure Kai Bartlett paddled this exact one in Kona.

Piece out, AG

I went to that website and it said the thing weighed 65 lbs. that seems kind of heavy for something that they would race at the world sprints.

Kai actually paddled last years model in Kona. It is a little heavier and a little wider, but it surfs like a dream!

It wasn't Kai, that was me, and it was in the Solo Molo, not Kona.

But I actually got DQ'd for NOT using a carbon boat. Can you believe that? You know I figured anything that would "grant you with a non-tiring and exciting ride" would be perfect for the Kaiwi channel. Amazingly enough, I never did get tired.

Gosh, with results like that, everyone should own one. Perhaps office buildings should install them in cubicles to increase production. Work could actually be non-tiring AND exciting.

Mullet i believe one of the Huki oc1 models has been selected for the world sprints in 2008, possibly the V1z which is the latest model. These canoes will have to be assimilated into the paddling public after the comp, so i guess they will come with removable rudder.

have continued searching on the internet, and the Canadians seem to think the V1 is going to be a Tiger..

Anyone else with any (serious) ideas?

I would have jumped my ass right out of that canoe. Seriously.

That photo was taken at the 2006 IVF Sprint World Championships in NZ.

The canoe is in it's 180º turn and the Mahi Mahi V6 chosen was very difficult to turn. The combination on a long waterline and very little rocker seriously challenged many crews to stay in thier lane when turing.

The information on the Canadian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association website is the serious update provided by the 2008 Worlds Organizing Committee at the 2006 August IVF meeting. They are looking seriously at the Tiger Canoe & Kayak "Teva Nui" for the V1.

Well given that Tiger himself is now living in Cali and producing his boats there that would make a lot of sense. Plus the Teva Nui is a nice rudderless traditional Va'a OC-1 for the World sprints.
