RamboCam

Hi Guy's, with all these video clips lately, thought i'd throw up one of mine. It's a 4 min highlite of a rough water time trial shot form the deck of my Hurricane. Turn up the volume.

Rambo, that was awesome! I felt like I was trying to drop in myself on the downhill section. Was that a Lanikai jersey on the guy in front of you? You're Mooloolaba, right? I've always had a lot of respect for you guys. I get the feeling you're too big for the hurricane-don't feel bad, I'm 5'11" 225Ilbs. Guys like us rock the 6 man.

Hi Rambo:

That was a great shot of your time trial. Just wondering where it was shot at?
I like the way you had the camera on your boat. Made me feel like I was on that fun ride!!

Actually the Guy i'm following is Steve West from Kanu Culture Mag. Yes he has a Lanikai shirt on and the clip was shot by me at Mooloolaba Aust. last Monday. As for weight, I'm 70kg or 155lb and 5' 9". The full video is 44 mins long, but those were the highlights.

More like that to come soon, this time the auto focus will be disengaged and i'm trying different positions on the canoe.
The DVD quality version is awesome on a big screen.

It was cool to see boats pounding into the swell. One question though: I thought a time trial was one person against the clock?

Im really enjoying all these videos from cameras mounted from different aspects on the boat , i really think these home made videos are going to make the sport grow. I have been showing non paddlers these clips and after they seen them they want to try paddling out( i could never convince some of them before) .So keep on making them...

Rambo, That was great. Couple of questions, What part of Aus and is that a moderate day or heavy day for you on the water? Keep the vids coming. Now I have to try and hook up my Fuze..

Thanks for all the encouragement bro's, have another one in the can now, this one is AmaCam and this time auto focus is disengaged so the drops on the lens don't effect the focus. Will post later on today. Toying with the idea of having the actual GPS speed and Heart rate readout appear in in the bottom left hand corner of the video.

Nalu ..... Mooloolaba Queensland and that was a moderate day. Hanging out for the bigs stuff, should be awesome.

Hey Rambo, check out this video of my buddy Kekoa (aka Rob "the fishing paddler" Phillips) doing battle with an Ulua on his OC-1... with the front iako out of the puka, no less (). You and Thor met Kekoa when you were here for the Keanae and Maui-Molokai races. He bought a helmet cam from http://www.helmetcamera.com/ and is still exploring the many varried uses for it. The video on youtube is a low-res version. The high-res looks fantastic on the TV.

Luv it Don, he sure can fish .... and paddle. This is something i'm yet to try here in Australia. Rob looks to have everything he needs on the Hurricane for fishing, I believe Kai Bartlett also like to fish from an OC1 on Maui.

Rambo, thanks for the information and the picture it puts things into perspective. You know your going to become the Warren Miller of OC-1. Great job. Maybe one day I'll get down to Aus and visit.

Fun video...super impressed with that link to the video of the guy landing the Ulua from his OC-1. Hard enough to do from shore.

Mahalos Rambo, for sharing your experiences through your eyes.

Don (dmehling), mahalo to you as well. The video that Kekoa shot is full of great tips.
I immediately went out and modified my current set-up, which really wasn’t much, to sort of mimic Kekoa’s rig. Though I did not loosen my front iako.
Mounting the dry bag behind the cockpit is awesome and provides a measure of safety and convenience.
I took the new and improved fishin’ rig out on the cold Atlantic and scored my second large Striped Bass (or Striper, as they are referred to in these parts), first on the new Fuze.
Pictures of the next fishing trip to follow.
The helmet camera is the next cool toy I have to convince my wife I “need”.

Mahalos again and be safe this holiday season.

Kanu The Rock
Aloha Yld Bill,
Great to hear you're out cold water paddling and fishing also! I may just get into some OC-1 cod 'jiggin next season if there's another recreational fishery.
Cheers,
Bob
