Shipping from BC to Ontario

I'm cosidering buying a used canoe from someone in Brithish Columbia and I live in Toronto.

Can anyone provide any insight as to the best (most reliable and cheapest) way to get the boat from A to B.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Shane

Hiya Shane,

Consider finding a trailer going east for a sprint canoe - kayak event and see if there is space available. A number of BC clubs go to CKC National team trials in the spring and others to the CKC Sprint Nationals in the summer.

Go to the Canoe Kayak BC website then follow up through one of the staff links.

Shane - the other way to do this is to go through a kayak/ canoe manufacturer from the west transporting east . see if they have room on their trailer coming west. Don't use the US transporters - otrherwise you will broker the boat twice across the border. - Good Luck to ya - it not easy !

Wow, canoe shipping. Been there before getting canoes to the Avalon. I wish there was an easy cheap way. I hired a broker who took care of everything, A-Z. It costs more but worth it. See if the seller can crate it somehow also since you can yell all you can about top loading and they don't topload it. Some builders ship in fiberboard concrete-pouring forms which protect alot more than bubble wrap since even if the container is pierced, the canoe can move around inside a bit and out of harms way (unless the thing is crushed completely). I had a canoe arrive here in bubble wrap and it was badly dented at the ama-iako attachment point, needing repairs which the shipper/dealer got covered no Qs asked, thankfully.
Good luck,
