Florida Ocean Paddling Series 2007 Race 2
Good Day all Florida Paddlers,
Miami delivered spectacular weather for the 2nd race of the Florida
Ocean Paddling Series. The only item missing was wind.
The location that Tim Streeter organized on Virginia Key was perfect,
crystal clear water and a great beach. Excellent parking and facilities
all round. Thanks Tim !
The course utilized existing marker buoys providing easy navigation for
the 7 mile race.
The race started right on cue at noon. A few good tussles immediately
ensued. On the Surfskis Reid and Derick were neck and neck all the way
round the course with Reid eventually winning by 1 second. The 2 double
Surfskis had a great race going with Mike Jordan and James Bryant
winning in great style. In the OC1 class, Harry Mountain showed his
great form and condition and steadily pulled ahead of Jean and Lex Raas
on their OC1's with Harry winning by a good margin. On the OC2's Jard
and Ashley were in good form taking a commanding lead in the OC2
division and maintaining that to the end. In the paddleboard division,
David Bondry completed the 7 miles in a spectacular time of 1 hour 39
mins.
The ladies were spectacular, Louise Vadala was first lady home on her
Surfski closely followed by Jacqui Albano on her OC1. Jacqui is going
faster and faster !
Our veteran's did fantastically, Stan Holquist had a fantastic race on
his surfski. In the OC1 division Monk led Scott and Mike home. You guys
are great !
A special thanks to Tim Streeter for organizing this race, Beans for a
great job on making sure all paddlers were safe. Everyone else that
helped make this happen, really appreciated by all of us paddling.
Race 3 will be held on Sunday 25th in Clearwater Beach at Shells
Restaurant facility. Shells is located on the North side of Sand Key
Bridge in Clearwater Beach. There is also a FCPA protected water race on
Saturday 24th in St Petersburg, for those travelling, make this a double
header. Additional information will be posted on Race 3 in the following
days. Please get the word out.
See you all in Clearwater Beach on the 25th February.
