this is just a fun little thread about things you remember coaches or other paddlers saying a.k.a quotes.
my coach “uncle” Joe has quite a bit of quotes that many of us, his youth paddlers know him by.
- “Lets Go!” pronunciation (Lez Goh)
- “Whaaaaat?!” pronunciation (Waaaaaaaah?!)
- “Nah Nah Nah” pronunciation (NahaNahaNaha)
- “Ahhhhhh” pronunciation (Aaaaaaaaaa)
- “Hah Shucks” (Ah Shux)
- “kkshkhdiodj” pronunciation (….?)
just a few of the quotes i know him by. haha. any other quotes? ive run across some Karel Tresnak Jr. quotes on the internet at some website.

One time we were racing this preseason race, I think it was the Pops Puakea in Waimanalo, and we were cruising along, way in front. The chase boat comes up along side us with Gail Berengue and an assistant coach. The assistant coach starts telling us what our stroke rate is, telling us we look good etc. when Gail shouts out “you guys look like a bunch of Mahus!” and everyone just starts laughing. The man knew the power of comic relief.
