Anyone been reading the "related items" at this site (surfski.info)about sharks, rescues, hypothermia, blown out to sea, etc.? I don't think that I'm planning a paddling vacation there in the immediate future.

The reason we publish those stories is so that we can learn from them! There is so much paddling happening here that the "war stories" are actually very few and far between.

Safety has increased hugely in the last few years and most paddlers are now taking sensible precautions (like using PFDs and mobile phones).

But because of the varying and often challenging conditions, the paddling here is incredibly good fun - and we have the most spectacular scenery to go with it. We recently hosted San Francisco based photographer Martin Sundberg and he took part in a couple of races. He was also taken on a double on our notorious Millers Run downwind route by Dawid Mocke (current US Surfski Champion) and had an absolute ball.

If you come here, we'll take care of you!

My comment was semi facetious, but it does seem that you've got some pretty wild conditions there.

Oh Yah they do. Thats why it's called the "Wild Coast"
1000 miles of beaches from Durban all the way down to Cape town with J - Bay some where in the middle. Whats really scary is the Great White Shark attack story on www.surfski.info as that almost happened to me during last years Molo Solo.

Yikes!
