Full contact racing.

Anybody know what exactly happened at the San Diego Crystal Pier OC-6 race, where one open men's canoe tried to cut another in half, but could only get their bow three feet through the other canoe?

Probably an accident.

I don't mean to steal this thread but this reminds me of the 2004 Beachboy Regatta in Waikiki when a canoe t-boned Poopoo Paddler's canoe while both of them were surfing a wave. Poopoo paddler, steering the canoe, sustained back injuries as a result. That's the reason he now has a permanent sashay when he walks. The offending canoe broke it's nose in half. Check out the series of photographs in the link. I love the paddlers' expression as they realize the inevitable. Everyone slid off their seats and hit the floor on impact. If you look closely at the last photo, you can see the broken nose of the canoe.

That's a great series of shots.

That would have been an epic event had it not been me in the boat.

What I still haven't figured out to this day is how my steering paddle broke in the accident.

Hey, this is weird. My post got shifted from third to fifth. What happened here? Does it automatically do that when you edit your post? Inquiring minds want to know.

Video is up on www.outriggercanoe.blogspot.com of the men's race and the crash is not as bad as you think. I got footage of the canoe right after. The crew paddled back into the harbor after and no one was hurt, except the canoe had a nice size hole in the stern.

Nice video. Who pinned em?

It is good to see Lanakila still going strong at the front of the pack. What was the stroke rate in the Lanakila crew? I couldn't tell if the video was running faster than real time or not.
