Headwind versus canoe speed?

What kind of relationship does headwind have versus canoe (OC-6) speed? E.g. if you are paddling into a 15mph / 24kph headwind, how much slower would you be going compared to no headwind?

Never done the math but you have more than just a 15 mph wind you have all the chop it creates. In the solo there was only a little head wind and there were very slow times.

I've found a good "rule of thumb" is to add 1 second for every 1 mph headwind per quater mile - in an OC-1. So a 15 mph headwind would add 15 seconds in a quarter mile or about a minute a mile. This is pretty accurate in the Ala Wai but obviously doesn't take into account chop and cross swells. A good OC-6 crew is faster than a one man, but there is also more windage and weight, so I think the "rule of thumb" is still pretty accurate for an OC-6. It would be interesting to take some timed runs in controlled conditions just to test out the hypothesis.
