I’m going to be at the dragonboat races in mid sept.
I’m going to stay a few extra days and was wondering if there might be a chance to paddle an outrigger during this time…
Any suggestions or leads?

Hi Malachi.
Here’s the link to the New South Wales Outrigger Association website. Click on ‘Club Directory’ and depending on which Club is closest, give ‘em a call and I’m sure they’ll be more than willing to save you a seat.

Cheers,

Hey All,

I would love to get in on some group OC paddling in the Sydney area, in September, Malachi has my info. However, I’m also wondering if any Australian paddlers can suggest a fun escape for a couple days after the DB races in September.

My ideal would be a couple day trip somewhere sunny and warm, with an OC1 I could rent/borrow, lots of water time, and a good amount of hanging around on beaches and exploring.

Where do the Sydney paddlers go for a long weekend or a short vacation? And is there any club or boat company that rents OC1s there? Maybe too much to hope for, but any input is welcome - I’ve just started researching what to do after the races. Gotta see at least a tiny slice of Australia after all that flight time and before I slog back to work.

Many thanks!

V

Valerie, Dan and Malachi, you would be looking for “Outrigger Central” warm and sunny and largest concentration of OC’s in Australia. I’m referring to South East Queensland of course, specifically Mooloolaba or the Gold Coast. Less than 1hour and $49 plane flight from Sydney.

See here for a preview.

Looks like it’s just you and me Clarkie, must have frightened the others off when they saw my wipe outs on the blog.

Maybe I’m not such a good Ambassador after all. Just the same, free canoes, warm sun and cold beer ain’t all that bad.

Prolly the Dragon Boaters are looking for a different experience.
