Huki S1-R

I'm thinking of purchsing a Huki SR-1. I have paddled a Fenn Mako XT and I'm curious to hear opinions about the two boats. I live in Jacksonville, FL. and unfortunatly there are very few Huki Surf ski's here. Thanks Dave.

Hey Dave,
I am a fairly new Surfski guy who owns an S1-R and have paddled an XT. They are both good boats with a slightly different feel.I think the XT is wider, and the R has more volume, both of which lend themselves to surf. The R might be a bit more vulnerable in side chop (due to the volume) , but both are pretty stable.Given the choice I would give the nod to the R. Jude's (Huki) quality is second to none (imho) for both OC and Skis. He stands by his product and is a good guy to work with.
I think the R felt a little more stable, but that could be because I paddle it more. Unless you are an elite/ top paddler, I would go with comfort over anything else!
Hope this helps,
Josh

I've got a Huki outrigger that I've put over 300 days of paddling on in the last year. Its still in perfect condition. On the roughest day it won't leak a drop. So, I swear by Jude's workmanship, and when you order one, its nice being able to talk to the guy that actually makes it.

You ever tried an Epic V10 or Fenn Mako 6..these from experience are well worth a look at and are very stable. Construction are very good and both skis perform well in flat to very rough condtions.
