Molos '95. Faaa had just won it twice, setting a record in '94, and seeming virtually unbeatable. I was a rookie on Lanikai's 2nd crew, and everytime I got back in the escort boat, the news got better and better. A few boats ahead, one minute, two minutes, and so on. The green team would go on to set a record that day, quite an accomplishment for a true club team composed of guys who had paddled together for decades in some cases. A little vicarious, I know, But that day really stands out in my memory as great one for Lanikai and Hawaiian paddling in general.Jim

Our boys 18 crew entered the Kaiola long distance Iong race from Kalapaki to kukuiula boat harbor which is about 15 miles. Two of the crew member had just got into a argument and everyone wasn't talking. The race started and we were doing alright in 4th, then to 2nd, and little before half way we all pulled together and caught the bump of our lives. We caught then passed the crew in front of us and held the lead and won the race. That race and that bump is one of the best memories I have.
