Henry Ayau Race Thoughts

Hey I've got an idea.

So lets do this race...it should be about 30 miles or so.

First, we'll hold it late in the summer when it's kind of hot.

Second, this 30 mile race will be along some of the flattest, boringest, hottest coastline we can find on Oahu.

And last but not least, we'll start the race at 10am. That way all the paddlers can make sure they are racing through 4 of the most scorchingest hours of the day.

All of what Jc9 said and now add..

and then help your friend move his entire house the day before the race so that on race morning your back hurts like a mo fo and you're dehydrated. Fun.

I hate that race.

Hey coming from a cali guy that race isn't that hard, hot yes but not as hot kona, long yes but catalina and molo are longer(not quite sure if catalina is longer but flater yes) and I mean come on something has to be put on to keep the guys in shape for molo.

if you want a surfing race do they Maui to Molokai the day before.

Is it really only thirty miles? To me it always felt like a tough race, maybe because it was towards the end of intense Molo preparation and everyone was all stressed out for the big one. Back then it was called the Skippy, of course, and it often served as a way to reward some guys and punish others leading up to Molos.

Nobody's forcing anyone to do the race, ya know?

FYI, the race is going to start at 8:30 am (not 10:00 am), per OHCRA's race director...

if you cant handle this race you better check yourself for the molo. no need to cry just gotta suck it up and paddle your ass off. everyone will suffer the same.

Sissies!

I find the henry way harder than molos. I dunno why but I always hit the wall way harder and earlier in henry that molo. I've had some interesting conversations with myself during that race.

E Lau Hoe sucks ass and since Henry Ayau is the same course... I agree with Mr. Poops. The voices in my head are much louder between Barbers and Nanakuli than at any point during channel.

830 start? never mind, the Ayau is now my favorite race of all time.

Who said there is no wind between Hawaii Kai and Barbers Point?

#15 Wed, 09/12/2007 - 6:11am

why not finish at Ko Olina?

get someone to sponser it, feed us beer and good food.

sounds good to me

Ko'olina has no ramp. They jackhammered it a few years ago in order to stop public launching from their property. If you read "Hawai'i Fishing News" you would know all about the unfair Ko'olina people. The lagoons could work but I doubt they would close the lagoons to swimmers for the canoes. Really, Nanakuli is NOT that far. And there is wind...just not when the women race!
