such an inspiration, back in the 90's i did my first oc-1 race, i was new to one man paddling even though i was paddling oc-6 for few years allready, i saw Nappy Rigging his boat right next to my Viper, i didnt know who he was yet, with a smile in my face my first thought was, "i wish i can be like him when i grow older", hahhahaha, the run was from hawai kai to aloha tower. as i finished, i was waiting in line to clime da pier, and he was more than 12 canoes in front of me, with a greater smile i thought, i am so far behind now.........how could i be like him in the future?. For sure an inspiration.

now 10 years went by, im back in Argentina, still paddle, and as i read this article the smiles from before turned into a deeper apreciation, to cross da channel for his 50th time and now with his SONS AND GRAND SONS!!!. SUCH AN INSPIRATION!!!!

IMUA NAPPY!!

Nappy is a class act.

My wife and I were in Hawaii for a cruise over the Christmas holiday in 2005. Prior to embarking we stayed on Waikiki. It was Christmas morning and we went for a run on the beach and saw two OC1s sitting on a truck and started chatting with the owner about the little bit of OC6 paddling (and a good bit of surf ski paddling) we had been doing in Florida and he offered to let us go out in the OC1s.

Of course, we accepted and he graciously rigged the boats and sent us out. How awesome was it to be paddling an OC1 on our first day in Hawaii?!!! We didn't have a ton of time, but it was an amazing hour.

A couple days later we were paddling surf skis with some folks on Kauai and told them our story and how this guy named "Nappy" hooked us up. They said, "Nappy? Nappy Napolean? He's a legend."

It was only then that we knew the scope of his paddling accomplishments.

50 crossings! Congratulations and thank you for making my brief time in Hawaii so memorable. What at true human being!
