Garmin Edge and Forerunner rebates

For anyone who is interested in a GPS for their canoe there are $50 and $75 rebates available for Garmin Forerunner 305 and Edge 305 GPS units by subscribing to The Powerbar Newsletter before November 30 (powerbar.com). An Edge 305HR cost me about $150 after the rebate. I used pricegrabber.com. I should have got the Forerunner 305 for the same price. It has better waterproofing.

I love my 305, but I gotta say, it still ain't that waterproof. Luckily replaced my first one within one week of the warrenty expiration.

I've been through three (3) Forerunner 305's... all killed by water damage... all replaced with brand new units promptly by Garmin.

Don't try to swim with your Forerunner 305.

Don't try to surf with your Forerunner 305 (canoe surfing okay, prone-paddle surfing, bad).

Don't even try to do water changes with your Forerunner 305.

Do get one. I absolutely love mine. Can't imagine how I trained before.

Hey Don

I've had my share of problems with Garmin too. Last time I had problems with it, I got hold of the Aussie Head Office and complained to someone further up the food chain, got a new unit (upgraded model as well to 305).
But I now use a waterproof pouch I got from Tri Paddle Maui while I was there in 2006, and have never had a problem since! I just carry it on the cargo net, or if I need to see it tape it to the deck.
I agree it's a great tool, and can't imagine heading out without it!

See you on the water!
Thor
