When I first heard about this idea, I got on Google Earth and circumnavigated Fraser Is and pretended I was paddling it....hooooey!!! Even on Google Earth its a very long way! Had another silly idea in thinking that our local outrigging club could put a few OC1's on the barge to Fraser Island and join Chris and Woogie for moral support on the west coast somewhere around Kingfisher Bay. It wont work! Why! Coz their 16ft boards (if thats what they are using... Mach I or II or III of the Penetrator model) just catch the tiniest bump and they are GONE and they would leave us behind so quick! No time for moral support there!
Anyway, its a great way to promote the sport and do something wonderful for a great charity. We hope the weather is with you, the marine creatures are feeling docile from tummies already full and you get time to enjoy the scenery. It will be spectacular. Stay safe.
Google Earth gives an amazing view of the many channels, sandbars and currents Chris and Woogie are negotiating up the west coast.
Should be like paddling downhill on the east coast if the northerlies kick in at the right time.
