Brada Mel is hosting his 3 rd annual Canoe Surfing Championship @ Makaha Beach. The dates are Dec 1st and 2nd and alternate dates are the 8th and 9th if the waves are flat. The event will start at 7:30 am. It is a fundraising event for steersman Leighton Look. He was paralyzed from the neck down in a diving accident and is now confined to a wheel chair. All proceeds from this event will go to Leighton’s family.
This event also gives us the chance to perpetuate the art of Hawaiian Canoe Surfing as well as stand up surfing. We hope you can come and participate and enjoy the beauty of Makaha Beach. If you have any questions please post a comment and I will get back to you. Mahalo.

Auwe, that is terrible news. Leighton has always been a guy everyone in the paddling world admires, even those who don't really know him personally, like me. My prayers go out to Leighton and his family. I hope everyone who can contributes to the contest. Please let me know where I can make a contribution.

For those of us that can't make it to Makaha, any info on how we can contribute and help Leighton and his family is appreciated. It's good to hear that at least he's out of the hospital bed.

Hi h20chic,
I will be visiting from Australia and would love to come see and support this event, I probably won't be checking this site much though, Will the event be advertised locally? Or is there someone I can contact the day before to find out if it's on or if the alternate weekend will be used?
