Jan 24 - Kai & Lauren win Leilani's Triangle Race

Anybody know what happened to the trade winds? Maui Canoe & Kayak Club had a nice calm day of racing. There was a tiny push from the north, which after working hard to catch gave us a little reprieve from the hot conditions. It was a tough race for all but we are thankful for the clear, thunder and lightning free skies.
We welcome the Oahu Paddleboarders and Ikaika & Frank from Hawaii. (We consider Kai a Maui local already J ) It is always great to have you all! We enjoy observing and being a part of the great camaraderie amongst the competitors and supporters.
Leilani’s on the Beach provided a great spread and those Michelob Ultra’s went down mighty fine. Mahalo to Tri-Paddle Maui (Maui’s premier paddle shop) for the beautiful plaques and great door prizes!
For the second time the hottest, closest race belongs to the Tug Boat or Da Bull Division (225 lbs +) Last week Don Mehling edged Jeff Shaffer for 1st & 2nd. This week Jeff edged Don for 2nd & 3rd. – We’re talking about 100’s of a second between them. What a great push to the very end.
Mahalo to the beach volunteers for stepping up and helping Gail with the finish line results. You are all hired! We appreciate the kokua which enables us to race.
