Ryan Dolan tops the year at Cold Pack Classic

Held on Saturday Dec. 15 in 20-25 mph winds off Lanikai beach, the 15th annual Lanikai Coldpack Classic was dominated by youth. In the Men’s OC-1 event, 17 year old Ryan Dolan held off 18 year old Jack Roney with a time of 40:55 to capture the 15 annual event and earn the dunk in the canoe cooler. The course started off the beach heading towards Waimanalo for about a mile, where the field took a left turn and out to sea behind the Mokulua islands where the ocean was wild. Roney took off at the start, however, by the time he reached the buoy outside the Mokulua islands, Dolan had captured the lead he would never relinquish. Roney held off numerous challenges on the surf run to Flat island and finished 26 seconds behind Dolan.

Ann Dewey defended her title in the women’s OC-1 division, with 16 year old Julia Anderson and 19 year old Katie Erwin leading the OC-2 women’s division.

For the first time surfskis were in multiple, with Dave Campbell leading the pack with a finish only behind Dolan in a time of 41:14.

All the participants walked home with Hinano Tahiti Surfwear prizes and one lucky winner won the Jen Ken Po to take home a brand new AC unit donated by NS Air Conditioning.
