whos going to be the champ on the surf ski this year

So now that we have one started for the OC-1, who do you thinks going to take the surf ski? Some of the past winners(australians to be specific) are getting up there in age so I think a guy from hawaii could possibly take it this year. My bets on Sean Monahan. Ive seen him training like an animal out there and he's looking in top shape. What does everyone think?

Floridaboy,

I couldn't agree with you more. It could not happen to a more humble and hard working individual. I paddled for Sean this past year with the Beach Boys and his work ethic is unbelieveable. I know he is ready for this season and he will most definitely beat those older australians. I expect him to do very well starting this weekend and continue to do well until the Molokai race.

Go Sean!!!

Glad to see some talk about surfskis. The problem is that there a lot of very fast South Africans, which will be some of the favorites. The only "old Aussie" is Dean Gardiner at 44 or so and the "old South African" Oscar is 44 also. I wouldn't count either of them out yet. Sean is very fast, and he has a few training partners that are also fast who help to push each other. We will probably have a good idea of our fastest local surfski paddler by the end of the local season. If it weren't for his Olympic Quest, Patrick Dolan would be another favorite!

Don't forget about youngsters like Brandon Woods. He never got the name recognition down here from kanaka races, but he is up at the Olympic Training center kayaking his brains out as well. He may even be able to make a team boat for the US team this time around.

while i think it is great there has been a forum started for the ski paddlers, the first two messages are from my coworkers trying to have a little too much fun. there are several guys training hard on the ski now and i am hoping all of them have a great season and can give the international guys a run for their money. sean
