Maui Canoe & Kayak Hurricane Ocean Racing Series – Race 3
The highlight of this hot, long, flat water race? That’s easy! Besides the finish line that would be the Monk Seal that greeting everyone as we paddled by the pali. The seal was huge, fat, with such cute eyelashes batting at us. We feel so honored to see one and to also go so close to one. It was hard to keep paddling.
Kai found his way through the new-to-him course. It probably didn’t help that the 2nd place finisher was also new to the course, Tony Mueller from Santa Cruz. With the extra mileage he put in Kai still won. Big T has been consistent in the 2nd spot while we welcome back Rick Nu`u to the course (3rd elite)
Roel & Robert on their Keokea battled the Kubo’s to the finish line. Tyson and Melanie (it was her first race) were riding Mike Giblin’s prototype – Hurricane OC-2.
Other excitement?
We have had 3 different winners for the OC-1 women elite. This week it was Deb Robison followed by Margie Kawaiaea and new-comer Andre Moller. It is exciting to have the increase in competition in the women’s division. This would include the number of novice women racing as we have close to 20 registered.
