Canadian Big Race

I always thoughte it would be a great race if the women raced from Jerico to Vancouver Isl and the Guys raced back. what do you think?

Mulus -
I have done it with the False Creek distance program, three year ago as a fundraiser for St Pauls Cardiac Clinic.

Seven hours to Nanaimo and the men paddles back in 6 hours. The weather and winds are unreliable so you have to pick your day. It was a fun day out and we had a kick ass support boat that could hold 10 people comfortably.

More importantly we raised over $3000.00 for the St Pauls Cardiac Clinic.

Would be nice to have an OC-1/OC-2 race from Jericho to Passage Isl. and back.

How about it Jericho OCC?

Pulling Water

Now thats a paddle, 7 hours thats a AMAZING and for a good cause I thoughte 5 hours was long. but that would be a good race.
I guess you seen we got the first single out I'm working on #2 theres moor work in the project than I anticapated. but I am in my glory making canoes. you have to drop in when our practices start and try one out.
Thanks again.

Hey mishka,

Do you remember the Cdn Iron champs prior to '07? They were Jericho to Passage and back...20+ km of side chop. Not to say I didn't enjoy it but the majority of PNW solo paddlers are used to 10km races that are either flat or upwind/downwind. It would require a lot more safety boats than any of the local races usually use. :-)

If you want some fun longer races check out the Tour de Indian Arm (~20 km, put on by Deep Cove Outdoors) and the Round Bowen Island race (33 km)

If you like it rough make sure you come out for the Island Iron OC6 and Trial by Water solo in Victoria. Always a blast!

Hey Shane,

I actually really enjoyed the 2004-06 Cdn champs because of that race course :)

But, you're right, this race would require more safety boats than the usual 2-3. Plus, dodging the occasional big boat traffic coming in and out of the Vancouver Harbour can be a little scary.

Nevertheless, it would be nice to see more small boat races in the 15-20km range (just like your clubs Downwind Run).
