O'Shaughnessy's Pineula Vaa East Hawaii Challenge
Results of the O'Shaughnessy's Pineula Vaa East Hawaii Challenge, held today, Saturday, Jan. 26. Long Course was 9.5 miles from Richardson's Bay to Hilo Bay via "Radio Tower" south of Keaukaha.
Short course was 6 miles, from Richardson's directly north to Hilo Bay, and the Junior course was 2 miles, held within Hilo Bay.
Conditions were great, with a following sea and light Hilo rain for the northbound paddlers. No times are shown for the long course, since all paddlers did not start at the same time or turn on the same point - so just the order of finish is given. The times for the short course are based on clock time as if they all started at 10:00 a.m., which was the advertised start time, although it took longer than anticipated to get all 79 canoes, surfskis & paddleboards launched and out through the narrow pass and breaking surf.
Yes, the day was like a three ring circus - with canoes finishing in the midst of the BIIF High School OC-6 Regatta being held simultaneously at Hilo Bayfront!
