must see oc tv

Hey All,

Just saw "Hawaii : Message in the Waves". A great documentary that everyone concerned about protecting our waters and the wildlife in them should see. It presents a great life philosophy on conservation, "Live Like You're in a Canoe"... enjoy the bounty of what is around you but protect what you have as if it's all you've got.

You can download it off the web site if you have a big net connection and can view PAL format videos (this is a BBC special).

This was showing on Animal Planet, but I haven't been able to figure out the schedule via their web site...

One thought I had is that some of us might download and watch this with members of our clubs to help spread the word... have folks over for beers or dinner and then watch the video. My coach is going to arrange for us to watch this as a club. While it is very sobering, there is also some very beautiful footage to help remind us of what we need to preserve.

And then we all go back to our homes and consider:
- what can we get by without?
- can we reduce our use of plastic products and reuse some things?
- how else can we be more kind to our environment?

I was also wondering if it might be possible to get some of the hotels in Hawaii to share this information with their visitors. People are visiting because they love the islands, maybe they could take back a message home about how to better protect them. Could they make the video available on their in room entertainment systems? Or could they offer an eco preservation class with a screening, some thoughts on how to have a positive impact, followed by a clean up session at a local beach? A class like that aimed at families might work. I know many people on vacation don't want to think about this sort of thing, but surely SOME percentage of people do... If anyone has contacts at the hotels that might be interested, please let me know as I'd like to discuss with them.

(By the way, the video is taking forever to download, even with my blazing net connection - I have a copy from my coach who saw this on Animal Planet. Maybe I can make copies and distribute to others who want to share this. Please p.m. me if you need a copy and I'll see what I can do. I think, since the entire video is available for download off the web site, that it is ok to copy and re-distribute. I'll check on that...)
