Paddling Calendar

I think there was talk about the paddling calender somewhere in an earlier thread. So I thought I'd post my findings which I came upon in my never ending quest for knowledge on the World Wide Waste of time. This may not be the most accurate report, but it is what it is...

Since Tahitians have pretty much set the example of preparation, training, and all out paddling madness, here's their schedule.

It seems in Tahiti one man and 6 man season are intermixed so as to allow athletes to train for one season a year. Peaking in October for the Hawaiki Nui and Molokai Hoe. I'm not in favor of one way or another of preparing or scheduling. This is just how the world's best have been doing it.

-Basically there are races every saturday starting in March. The Sat races include V1, V3, and V6.
-April 5th first big V6 race from Punaauia to Moorea to Punaauia.
-May 10th Rangiroa Channel Hoe : Rangiroa to Tikehau, change race like Molokai Hoe
-July 5th Faati Moorea: Tahiti to Moorea to Tahiti. 84 kilometers
-July 12th Te Aito: V1 qualifier for Super Aito
-August 13,14,15: Super Aito V1 race
-Early October Molokai Hoe
-Approx October 29, 30, 31 Hawaiki Nui.

Seems like everyone would have to train on every boat... year round.

No racing at all for five months? Sounds like Hawaii pre Kanaka Ikaika.

No racing = isn't that what you call an "off season" and "pre-season"??

The official calendar of the Tahitian va'a association can be found here.

As you will read "off season" only last 2 months (January -February).

No matter how long the off season is... there are various kinds of racing going on most of the year in all types of boats. Not just V1 or V6 at a designated time of year.

Plus the more I read about training, the more I understand there isn't an actual off season. You may not be racing, but you should train to some degree year round.
